Lolita
by Vladimir Nabokov
This book has left a stain on my brain. Humbert stands blind to his pedophilic nature, completely consumed by the gift of youth, leaving me to want nothing more than to hang him at the stake. Pushing all acceptable boundaries, “Lolita” is an unbelievably uncomfortable read. I felt physically ill when Humbert would explain his fixation, but there’s something so uniquely stylistic about his thoughts that I could not put it down. Though Nabokov most certainly should be on a watch list— I wasn’t even aware one could view a child like this— his writing is effortlessly beautiful.
