Day of Honey: A Memoir of Food, Love, and War
by Annia Ciezadlo
Didn't finish this one. It's a memoir of a journalist who goes to Beirut and Baghdad with her Arabic journalist husband. The author has chosen to present her experiences there through the lens of food. And I thought the food parts were fine, although I couldn't "taste" anything through descriptions.
However, the author didn't put enough of herself into the book. 60 pages in, I had no idea what she was like, what her husband was like, or what her in-laws really were like. I had a hard time picturing where she was or what the settings looked like. In a place that not many people get to, I needed more- more of the people, more of the places, more life.
