Viewed independent of all context, this book is generally quite good, but a combination of poor representation, short length and overly fast pace, and unlikable main characters (*cough cough Evelyn*) combined to make a reading experience that never quite immersed me and was constantly pulling me up and out of the story.

I also found Monique as a character deeply unnecessary, and I thought that this entire book could be greatly improved if Jenkins Reid had spent more time working on accurate representation and Evelyn’s character, rather than opening this story about Evelyn with a boring and exceedingly passive protagonist.
