What an interesting story! Biography of X is a fictional biography of CM’s wife, X. CM wrote this biography after X’s passing and throughout the story, we see that X had a full life with a lot of relationships, careers, and personal projects.
Though this was fictional, there were nonfiction elements to the story which was so interesting to read.
As the story goes on, CM learns more about X’s life that she never knew while she was alive. X had complicated relationships with almost everyone in her life. She was a toxic person and by the end of the book, CM has to reconcile that aspect of her late wife.
I don’t think this book is for everyone but I really enjoyed it. There were so many characters, locations, artists, and political conversations. I enjoyed reading CM’s reflections at the end and what she learned from writing this biography.
Lacey’s writing and character development were understated but so effective! Can’t wait to read more from her.
