Okay, I have been trying to piece together my thoughts about this book for the past two days and I think I have finally gotten somewhere. One of the most fascinating parts of this story is the world that it's set in. While at first quite confusing the world is built gradually through the experience of the characters. This a style of world building that might not work for everyone, but as very character driven reader I loved it. I found my self caring more and more about the characters and becoming more invested in the world as well as their places in it. I also appreciate that this style of world building prevents excessive 'info-dumping' since that is something I do not enjoy, and find quite often in complex fantasies. I also want to mention the characters in this book are incredible. Not only are the characters interesting and well rounded, but the character development that happens over the course of the story is excellent. There is a lot of development for the main protagonist which is done in a way where you can see very real change that is also believable for the story. I also, as a quick note, enjoyed the magic system as well. Overall this booked worked out really well for my personal taste, I get why this series has earned the awards it has and I'm excited to continue on with it.
