This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune
lighthearted
mysterious
reflective
medium-paced
4.0
I think that Carley Fortune’s books are just fun summer reads. It actually kind of reminded me of Emily Henry’s book from last summer HAPPY PLACE - I think because it was a visiting a friend for a wedding out of town and the miscommunication. I probably liked Fortune’s last two books better, but I do enjoy a summery read.
It was hard for me to believe she had no idea what her very best friend / roommate’s brother looked like, and it also bothered me that so much of the book depended on this super big secret this friend was keeping from her. I didn’t feel like the secret should have made that big of a difference in the story - like why they couldn’t have talked about it. But yet, so little of the book was about their friendship (which I felt like that could have been different if it would have been developed differently).
This is a very on / off again relationship. I do like that many scenes are closed door, but there is some spice.
I loved the descriptions of Prince Edward Island. We cruised around the Canadian islands last year and it’s so fun to go back in my head.

In THIS SUMMER WILL BE DIFFERENT, Lucy goes to her best friend Bridget’s hometown on PEI. Before Bridget arrives, Lucy meets her bff’s brother Felix and sparks fly. But Bridget has 3 rules:
Number 1. Eat your weight in oysters.
Number 2. Leave the city behind.
Number 3. Don’t fall in love with my brother.
Several years later, they are going back to PEI before Bridget’s upcoming wedding to get away for a few days. When Bridget arrives, she doesn’t seem like herself and won’t answer questions if her upcoming wedding is still happening. Lucy and Felix end up together a lot, reminding her of all of their past secret flings, and causing her to question their future.

“His face was the intersection of breathtaking and rugged.” Prologue
“...It may be Bridget's home, but it's precious to me, too. Some of my happiest memories are set on this gorgeous crescent of green land. Some of my biggest mistakes, too. But I won't repeat them. Not this time. For once, this summer will be different. Chapter 2
