dark emotional reflective medium-paced

Kate Beaton’s art perfectly captures the melancholy and mundane of her time at the oil sands - and so intimately captures so many specific experiences: the uncertainty and tentative hopefulness of graduating as a creative under the thumb of a predatory loan system, the isolation of being a woman in a male dominated space, the realizations of the evils of capitalism. It’s paced in a way where we get to learn alongside her, and she pairs these lessons with moments of humor, tenderness, and humanity. A really beautiful read.
