Afterlives
by Abdulrazak Gurnah
An intriguing tale that is told by piecing together 4-5 lives. There are times the jumps out of one life into another are rather abrupt. There are sections time moves very slowly and then huge jumps in time will occur. The end leap was through both time and space and felt more like an afterward. I was rather shocked when there was no more.
I was looking for historical fiction about Tanzania, and this definitely fit that bill, covering much of the 20th century and perhaps a bit before. The colonial aspirations of first the German’s and then the English.
