She Is a Haunting
by Trang Thanh Tran
This was OK-- I wanted to like it more than I did. I would recommend it for a variety of reasons: it's an incredibly unique premise, the writing style is really quite beautiful despite the many unfavorable and stomach-turning descriptions throughout the book, it's a haunted house/possession story. I think the author did a pretty decent job of inserting the ick-factor. I love bugs and insects so I was actually pleased to read the many descriptions but I know most would be repulsed by them.
However, it could be a me thing, but I constantly found myself backtracking and feeling like I missed something. The haunting and motivation behind it didn't feel convincing enough to support the awesome premise I was expecting. The ghosts and/or the villains were uninteresting and didn't feel fully formed (if that makes sense).
Didn't live up to my expectations but clearly, there are others out there that totally dug this.
