Fire by Kristin Cashore

5.0

In the Dells, rebel lords are building armies in attempts to unseat the young King. War is coming. And only Fire can help.

Fire is the last of her kind. There are plenty of animal monsters around: exquisitely beautiful creatures in unnatural colours which entrance their human prey. If you meet a green mountain lion, you won''t walk away from the encounter.

Fire is the last human monster, named for her brilliant red hair. She hates what she is, and finds herself torn. The King needs her to control and read minds to save his throne. But can she embrace her power without embracing the brutal nature of monsters?

To find out, read "Fire," by Kristin Cashore '- hands down, the best YA book published in 2009. But if you're an adult, don't let that stop you - I've given this book to all of my adult friends, and they love it as much as I do.

Cashore's books are so absorbing, you never want them to end. I thought nothing could be better than "Graceling" until I read "Fire." It has action and romance, and a perfectly flawed heroine. Just PERFECT - I could not recommend it more highly!!
