Chasing the Boogeyman by Richard Chizmar
4.0

This was an interesting book. A fictional story that reads like a true crime novel with the author as the main character. Even going as far as to include images from the small town to create a very immersive atmosphere.

The author blended true events from his childhood with the fictional events of the story in a way that I personal enjoyed. However it did cause the plot to be rather slow without much going on. If you enjoy reading about everyday people going about their lives while a killer is on the loose then this is an enjoyable read, but it is not a fast paced detective procedural.

Unfortunately, I found the ending to be rather anti-climatic... but honestly most real life endings with true crime stories often are. The heart of the story is the town and its people, a love letter to a small town and home, it wold not make sense to turn it into an action move in the final chapter.

Overall a compelling (not) true crime story!
