While there are intriguing moments, I found it largely unrewarding. *Spoiler ahead.* As a 9th grade teacher, I immediately guessed what is supposed to be the first major twist—anyone who has spent time with a real 15 year old would. The second major twist felt unsatisfying and incoherent with the world that had been established—it felt like trying to jam too much in. Some of the narrative oddities were partially explained by the third major twist, but the writer’s habit of ending every other paragraph with a platitude summarizing what that paragraph had described was frustrating.
