A Map Into the World by Kao Kalia Yang

3.0

The book is told in the past tense, all leading up to a chalk drawing on the driveway of the main character's neighbor who is a widower.

I appreciate how the drawings at the end relate to nature that was part of the young girl's life but I do not think young children will understand the words at the end which are also the title:. A Map Into the World.

Is this book about a child and her siblings? The passage of time? Grief? How to help someone who is grieving?

I am not sure.

I give the book 3 stars for it's illustrations and it's incorporation of some of the Hmong culture and words.
