“Orlando was unaccountably disappointed. She had thought of literature all these years (her seclusion, her rank, her sex must be her excuse) as something wild as the wind, hot as fire, swift as
lightning; something errant, incalculable, abrupt, and behold, literature was an elderly gentleman in a grey suit talking about duchesses.”
I know that I'm slowling my capacity of understanding latin and ancient greek, for being so out of practice. I'm now aware that I'm also losing my capacity to read english classics.
I loved this book, I really did - I think I also missed half of it, while I was looking for some narrative sense (what a fool !) and I only realized it near the end. But I've loved it - I've loved being dipped again in Woolf's writing and stream, I love her ways to describe places and minds. I need to re-read it in some months or years to enjoy it fully, I think.
The age was the Elizabethan; their morals were not ours; nor their poets; nor their climate; nor their vegetables even. Everything was different.
