The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

5.0

Type of read: Commuter Read.

What made me pick it up: Suggested to me when I shared my 2021 reading accomplishments with social media.

Overall rating: First off, Daniel Henning is a narrative genius. Their reading of 'The House in the Cerulean Sea' truly made it a wonderful tale! Getting to the actual content of the story and my thoughts on the book...amazing. Absolutely beautiful and a great reminder of doing the next good thing. We meet Linus, a do gooder, follower the rules, and an extremely straight-laced individual who finds out what it's like to color outside the lines. This is one of those books that secretly pushes you to realize that you are a badass bitch and can do anything regardless of what you look like or what society thinks you're supposed to do. The characters are relatable and it's easy to see a bit of yourself in each of them. I would, without a doubt, recommend The House in the Cerulean Sea.

Reader's Note: After reading the book and skimming some of the reviews before posting my own, I see that there are quite a few that talk about the problematic nature of this book being based on some truly horrific historical events. I fully recognize that I'm coming from a point of privilege when reading the book and writing this review as I'm not closely involved with or part of the population affected by the historical events; however, when approaching it at face value as a fiction book, I stand by my opinion of The House in the Cerulean Sea and stand by my recommendation.
