Cari Mora by Thomas Harris
3.0

Wait... what!? That’s it?!?! I mean...where’s the second half of the book?!
It just...ENDS. LIKE- I was reeling through it and then ... it just ENDS.
I mean I know conclusions have never been Harris’ forte but I really was expecting a better conclusion than that.

There’s a villain that is sorely - abd I mean SORELY under-utilised. And he’s a good, creepy villain. But it all feels rushed. We even visit Quantico, briefly, introduced to brave new character Holly (for about 20 seconds) and then the story goes elsewhere... why waste great opportunities?

It feels like there were SO many (too many?) threads, SO many (too many?) characters... I was having trouble telling my felix from my Antonio from my Alejandro from my mateO from my Benedito... and I really wanted it to pay off in a grandiose way. It didn’t bother me that Lecter wasnt gonna show up, but to just waste so many opportunities just seems silly.

We get one book every decade or two, this just seems somehow weirdly unfinished. The worst part is it would have been so easy to introduce Lecter, even briefly, but more than anything there seem to be all these set-pieces or ideas that don’t really culminate. at times the writing is very confusing - had to reread many passages to clarify what exactly was going on...?

I feel like I was rushing to a goal, only to find out I was in the wrong direction the whole time. 3, maybe 3.5/5 because the disappointing ending and confused writing near the end.
