New year new me = reading genres I never have before. I’ve never been into fantasy books or ghost stories. I’m a thriller girlie but the paranormal wasn’t really something I wanted to read about. But I saw several in my bookstagram community that loved it so I thought I would give it a chance and I’m so glad I did!

This glorious book was 502 pages of twists and turns for me. I was super stoked to read this because it’s a book by a black woman author where the main characters are black. Thrillers and other horror stories don’t always have a diverse cast of characters.

Daisy was a teen that could see the dead. She didn’t know why but she had the ability to see those who haven’t passed on anywhere she went. Daisy lived with her mother Grace who always seemed to need Daisy’s help. One day Grace received news that she inherited a mansion from her ex brother in law in another town. With Daisy having a failed relationship, hating school and just one friend, she welcomed a change of scenery.

When Grace and Daisy arrived at the mansion, Grace let Daisy know that they wouldn’t be living in the main house but in a smaller house in the property. Grace would use the mansion as an AirBnb and Daisy was to never set foot in that mansion. When Daisy was told this, she never understood why. What was wrong with the house? Daisy meets two friends - King who mirrors her mother’s orders and Ivy who wants to help Daisy see what’s inside. Crazy things start to happen and Daisy starts to wonder if Ivy is who she says she is.
