Who would ever think one could become so concerned about a fictional honey bee and her health and well-being. This was a fascinating and beautiful book and definitely slides in as my second favourite read of the year (A Little Life holds first place). A stunning a terrifying novel in the vein of The Handmaid's Tale & Water Ship Down. I loved the character of Flora 717. Intricate descriptions of a bees day to day routine within a hive, stark images of how humans have polluted and poisoned the bees source of life. Religion, politics, class systems. It's all here and it's wonderfully told.
