Live and Let Die by Ian Fleming
There seems to be an element of sluggishness in all of the two James Bond books I have read. There is no urgency in each plot, and Bond can usually take his time. But when Bond seeks danger, things go quickly. Perhaps this is the fine line that makes Bond so popular. A gentleman in peace time and a brute actor in war. Regardless, this is a short and enjoyable book.
