Kingdom of the Feared by Kerri Maniscalco

3.0

By now we know the drill, this is not a YA book and whoever categorized this as one should go straight to jail. Now.....This installment was very close to being my favorite in the series, but I ended up having a couple of major issues with it that is preventing me from doing so. First, I cannot get past the fact that there was misspellings of characters names on literally the same page of the first chapter. It has been a common theme that this series needed serious editing, but also proofreading. Pettiness aside from formatting issues, I really wasn't vibing with the massive lore dumbs that seemed to be going on throughout this book. It felt like the lore was just being info dumped in order to make things make sense and come together. I feel like the pacing of it would have been better if the timeline had been oved up a little in book 2. I understand wanting to make the reveal of Wrath the big reveal of book 2 to add flair and a sort of cliff hanger, but it fell really flat. Especially when you didn't get an explanation for literally anything major until halfway through book 3. I didn't like the resolution of the Vittoria villain storyline, it felt rushed and incomplete. I ALSO WANTED MORE OF GLUTTONY AND SLOTH. They quickly became MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS even though they got THE LEAST amount of face time. I also really loved Envy too, he was a solid third favorite of mine. I just don't know how you can write about the 7 sins and really only focus on 5 of them (really more like 4 if we are being fair to Lust...he was really kind of just there). I really liked seeing the different personalities of the princes and the characters coming into themselves more. I just wish Sloth and Gluttony got the same treatment. Also, not telling us all of their curses is a crime. I am too curious of a person to just be left in the dark about it. Lastly, I feel like this entire book was one long ending that wouldn't end mixed with one long epilogue. Literally the last 40 pages were essentially epilogue and I just kept saying "there's more?!" and it wasn't even the more I wanted. Like give me the tea on the curses and how they were broken please.

Again, a common theme with this series is: if you don't think too much about it or ask any questions, it's a fine read. I think I just wanted this to be more well rounded in terms of how the plot was rolled out and how the characters fit in to the plot.
