I feel really conflicted about this book.
I really wanted to like it, and the potential and premise were very intriguing. maybe because of how much I wanted to like it, I feel more disappointed by it?
the pacing was not for me right now. I also can’t say I loved the execution or the style of the story either, and I often felt a disconnect with the characters. the book felt sort of chaotic to me. I love a book with twists and turns, but while reading, I felt myself just more confused over what direction the book was trying to take. however, I simultaneously can’t say the ending was super surprising either. it kind of felt like I was taking really random turns to get to a destination when there was an easier route all along.
also I do love books that validate and show the struggles of women against misogyny (it’s also interesting when tying it to the past, i.e. witches) so I don’t really hate or mind the ending and explanation like other people seemed to. I will admit that some parts were not really wrapped up well, though. also, I hate to compare, but in my opinion, Weyward by Emilia Hart and this book do similar things, and that book is just so exceptional that I can’t help just feeling like if I was going to recommend a book with this style and purpose, I’d recommend Weyward instead
