Mm. My feelings towards this book are at best, ambivalent. I think this is one of those stories that would be better suited for a screen rather than paper. It felt like a bad (but brilliant) 90s/early-00s thriller movie that is predictable, and badly acted, but you can't look away and will always remember with fond memories. That's exactly what this book felt like. It was easy to fly through, it was predictable and dramatic, but I look at it fondly. There were aspects about the writing and pacing that bothered me, especially the dialogue and how stagnant the plot felt for much of the book. I didn't love how I went into this expecting it to feel like the 80s. Despite the establishment of the early Behavioural Science Unit of the FBI and Emma's sister Robbie wearing a Blondie shirt on the eleventh page, you could have told me this took place in 2020 and I would have believed you.

This definitely didn't live up to my expectations, but I don't regret reading it. I had fun and I think that's good enough.
