⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (3.5–4 stars for me)
I just finished listening to the audiobook of Fall of Ruin and Wrath by Jennifer L. Armentrout, and whew—this one definitely leaves you hanging on a cliff! You’ll need to continue with the series if you want answers because it stops right at that “what happens next?!” moment.
What really stood out to me was how the highborns, princes, and kings receive their energy. Spoiler alert: it’s a little spicy and not what I expected at all. 👀 The way they “feed” adds a very interesting (and intimate) twist to the fantasy worldbuilding.
That said, if you’re going into this expecting spice right away, just know—it’s a slow burn. The book spends a good amount of time on backstory, character setup, and introducing the author’s universe before anything steamy happens. The payoff is there, but you’ll need patience.
As someone who doesn’t usually read fantasy, I’d say this was a pretty solid read. The worldbuilding is rich, the setup makes sense, and the cliffhanger definitely does its job. I’m not sure if I’ll jump straight into the rest of the series, but I’ll probably circle back later just to find out how things play out.
Also—major props to the narrator, Soneela Nankani. She did an excellent job bringing the characters and world to life. I’d definitely recommend listening to her narrations in other books, too. 🎧👏
Overall: A pretty good book, especially if you like slow-burn fantasy romance with a touch of spice. For me personally—I like my books spicier sooner—but it was still an engaging listen! 🔥
