So, Ellen has corrected me. She did not recommend this book to me, she merely loaned it to me for a quick read. She did not like it and neither did I. I was surprised I didn't like it though because I really liked Bel Canto. I enjoy Patchett's writing style, but this book just didn't click for me. The story was pretty disjointed and didn't make any sense. However, there were some pretty good nuggets of writing. I think Patchett should have just taken a couple of chapters and published as a short story, and thrown the rest in the garbage.
