Nine Liars by Maureen Johnson

Excuse me, what was that ending? Because if there was to be a cliffhanger in a mystery book, you’d expect the cliffhanger to be about the mystery, right? But no, it was about Stevie’s personal life.

The reason that this irks me, though, is because I feel like the “Truly Devious” series should be over (no matter how much it pains me to say that). I can sing many praises about the first three books, but the magic was lost in the fourth book, and this 5th one was not strong at all.

For the first quarter of the book, I felt that the chapters from the past about the crime were much more interesting than Stevie’s present-day chapters. Then, the boring sightseeing descriptions of London overshadowed Stevie’s mystery solving.

I know I’ve slammed the book thus far, but the plot wasn’t terrible and I didn’t dislike reading it.
