The Maze Runner Files by James Dashner
3.0

contrary to what i feel like everyone else thinks, i found the weird slang to be kind of charming lmao. i thought the idea of the maze was really cool and well thought out and implemented, and most of the ways that the kids reacted to the things that were happening to them seemed pretty on-par with what i think real kids would do in a situation like that.

of course, it's YA. there's a weird love subplot, and its straight, and they have to set up for a sequel. if this was just one selfcontained story about thomas and his surviving in the maze and eventually escaping with some of his friends, i think it would be a lot more compelling. the ending is lackluster and feels pointless. the coolest part of this series is that they're in the maze, and i never bothered to read further because the maze is no longer in the series. wasn't interested.
