Sweet Temptation by Cora Reilly

5.0

I don't do mafia romances; that's just not my thing. There, I just laid it out. Undoubtedly, this trope is overused enough to wear off its effect. But this particular exception of a book begs to differ. Something about it was so appealing I couldn't quite put my finger on. Even after having so many popular themes cramped into one book, the author did an excellent job of bringing every side to attention. Overall, I had a great time with this book.

Cassio Moretti, the ruthless underboss of Philadelphia, is feared by everyone for his brutality and the utter power he dominates the entire city with. In his world, there is no space for mistakes; he is good at following through just that. A tragedy leaves him widowed with two children to take care of. He is well aware of how such a situation might impact his position; expectations of his fellow peers, who are as bloodthirsty for power. They would rip out any weak link within their circle at the first chance given. Bound by duty and considering his children's need for a mother figure in their lives, he agrees to a marriage with another powerful underboss's daughter. Though she's barely of age and he hates her father. To him, it is the only way for immediate damage control. His new wife, Giulia, is nothing like he expected; she is too stubborn, too reckless, and doesn't know a single thing about raising a kid. Her quirky dresses, constant disobedience, and weird obsession with sunflowers make his sanity resolve; she is too optimistic for her own good. Despite his rudeness, she is desperate to make their marriage work. A marriage built on strict boundaries starts to crumple as she forces herself into his heart with her lovely smile and caring for his children like her own.
