The Julian Chapter: A Wonder Story by R.J. Palacio
5.0
I loved this one. This book was very polarizing for me. I went from hating to loving to back to hating and then loving again. Kind of like in life. It was great hearing from Julian's POV. I think this book should have been written with [b:Wonder|11387515|Wonder|R.J. Palacio|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1309285027s/11387515.jpg|16319487]. They're both so short after all. Backstories, explanations, and details are my favorite and The Julian Chapter delivered.
I loved the grandma. She was the best character, especially when she told off her son and daughter-in-law. We need more grandmas like that in life. Sadly, these kinds of grandmas will soon be sued for Hate Crimes, though.
The only good thing about Julian is that he's not afraid to talk to adults. Other than that he's a product of very poor parenting (nurture wins, yet again). I'd like to know how the mom grew up so we can do some inferring. What made her such a helicopter parent? Fortunately the dad still managed to have some of his wits about him. I chuckled when Julian went to the hospital in an ambulance for getting his teeth knocked out. An ambulance. For that. The notes that Auggie and Jack wrote back to Julian were funny and clever.
Beecher Prep costs 40k a year? Geez. And parents actually pay for that? My whole college career cost less than a third of that. Beep Almighty.
