One thing I will give Shubin credit for is that he brought attention to women scientists and their contributions to the field, and highlighted how much they struggled to have their ideas and discoveries taken seriously, but sadly that is still going on today in just about every field and profession there is, so nothing new under the sun there.

But I am still glad he gave women scientist credit and attention when they are usually ignored and buried. So, I am grateful to Shubin for that.

However, I can't give it more than a three. I do feel he is a brilliant scientist, but he is just not that engaging of a writer. I read his previous book 'Your Inner Fish' and had a problem with just how textbook like it was. I also feel his writing did get very repetitive at times.

Yes, he is a good scientist, but not that much of a writer, but I still respect the attention he gave to ignored women in science. But I feel that maybe he would do better to hire a writer to write his books while he contributes to research, that would probably result in a better end product.
