a broadly enjoyable and simple regency romance. it was fine but it didn’t do much for me, and the romance wasn’t really that good. the love interest didn’t actually have very much page time, and the idea of their romance blossoming didn’t even really occur until the 75% mark. it also wasn’t very original (which it doesn’t have to be to be enjoyable, but some scenes smacked intensely of austen/heyer/quinn).

but it was fun! i like regency setting and the writing is pretty good which is why it’s still getting three stars from me. i thought the side characters were funnier than the main characters (as i often do in romances of this nature) and i would read more about them, even if their stories weren’t really romances. alas it looks like that is not what the author plans for this series - jumping to a completely different set of characters which we haven’t really met.
