Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
4.0

wonderful novel. the two main themes of the novel are embodied by the two main sisters. but not to the point where they become too dominant that the sisters are just embodiments of the themes rather than actual people. austen explores how money and social status infect and prevent people from being able to love who they want. or even be decent friends/family members to each other. not willing to help because someone is of a lower class or because it doesn’t make good business sense; it’s awful that people could be and still are this way. austen does a good job detailing how damaging this can be. the cast of characters are great. the prose is breezy and wonderful. the only major gripe i have is the relationship between marianne and colonel brandon.  it came off as a fudged romance. but still a strong novel overall.
