A page turner for sure, it was also pretty dang violent (warning!). It might be the perfect book to recommend to guys who like bang bang shoot em' up movies.
Appealing more to me, was that the story also focused on acceptance and growth. We might not be proud of our past or certain things we have done or said, but we can always choose to improve, to learn, to try and do better. I thought this book did a decent job depicting race, class, sexuality, and even prison life. Not light hearted in the least but if you're up for the exploration of the systems that underlay human society, some graphic scenes mixed in with some deep and meaningful messages, I would recommend.
