First of all, how cute is this book cover?! It reminds me of the introduction to the tv show Bewitched. I’m just waiting for her to wiggle her nose at me. Anyway, this cover is what initially attracted my attention, along with the title itself. Shakespeare, anyone? If you didn’t guess, the title of the book is part of the witches chant from Shakespeare’s Macbeth. (If you haven’t read it, you should.)

I almost expected, from other books who make titles from important literary works, the plot to be in some way similar to that of Macbeth; however, I never really found much similarity, other than there are witches in both. Not a deal-breaker by any means; the story is still fun.

I would also have to describe this as a mixture of the Sookie Stackhouse novels and the Stephanie Plum series. Jolie, the main character, reminds me of Stephanie Plum in speech and ideology, and the book itself reminds me of the Sookie Stackhouse novels with the paranormal entities and all of these love triangle and trysts. Quite entertaining and a bit smutty at times, which never hurt anyone. What I’m saying is, if you haven’t read the previously mentioned books, you should, and if you have read them, then maybe you should give this a try. It’s a nice combination of both.

I did have some issues with Jolie’s character, though I did like the book as a whole. Jolie just doesn’t seem very smart to me. She takes a lot of things at face value and with blind acceptance. With that being said, she has one heck of a vocabulary. It’s almost as if Mallory forgot she needed to dumb down her character a bit.

Another thing that bothered me was Jolie’s somehow inherent knowledge of literature. I’ve already mentioned that I don’t think Jolie is an intelligent character, so it bothered me that without any sort of background as to her education, she drops author/title names every so often. I think it was a little pretentious and almost a sort of validation that just didn’t work on me.

Because of those two issues, I’m going to give this book ★ ★ ★ ★ stars. I think a little more character development for Jolie would help this book greatly. But if you’re looking for something fun and entertaining to read and like paranormal novels and a little bit of smut, I would definitely recommend this.
