I was excited to read this book being an avid cyclist. I was progressively disappointed as I read this memoir. He seemed to be in a hurry to get it over with. There wasn’t much focus on the people he met on the road, the cultures of the countries he was in or focused on the riding experiences. How many endless chapters did I need to read about his struggle in whether or not he believes in god. And in the end no conclusion. His friend Weston who left halfway through the trip was a far more interesting person and I think could have written a more insightful story of their journey. Jed bought Rosetta Stone a year before he left and never opened it. He kept kicking himself through the trip he wished he could have learned more Spanish. Perhaps instead of getting out his iPad and watching Netflix movies during his rest periods or podcasts on his device while riding he could have been learning Spanish.
