The Recovery Agent by Janet Evanovich

2.0

So I created a new shelf for this book: Glad It's Over. This wasn't bad per say, but it seemed like a really immaturely written book. I feel like a teenager wrote it, with the crazy plot points and unrealistic dialogue. At one point Gabriella and Rafer are trapped on an island and need to get to a boat in the ocean, so he says something like, "We can just swim out in shark-infested waters. Why not, we have nothing better to do."

At no point was anything in this book remotely believable. Gabriella is trying to find a ring which will bring in money for her hometown in South Carolina which has been ravaged by a hurricane. She and Rafer, her ex-husband travel around the world to find it, getting mixed up in a drug ring and trying to outsmart a bad guy who wants to sacrifice Gabriella to some sort of demon god. Then a spirit of one of her ancestors eventually saves her and they get $8 million in cryptocurrency to save town, so all's well that ends well. I'm sorry, WHAT??? I had hoped that this might be a fun new series to start but it's not for me. I give the plot a 2 and the characters a 3 out of 10. Overall grade is a D. The best part about this book was that it was short.
