Uprooted by Naomi Novik

17-year-old Agnieszka is taken by the Dragon—the kingdom’s most powerful and necessary wizard—as a price for his protection against the darkest forces imaginable. She's torn from everything she loves: village, family, and friends. Inside the Dragon's mysterious tower, she finds more power than she ever could have imagined. In a rich fantasy world with wild sorcery inspired by the legendary Baba Jaga, an ancient evil has been spreading over every living being's chance for happiness, but Agnieszka's decided to start fighting back.

Even hours after reaching the last word of the last page, Agnieszka, the Dragon, and their twisted but beautiful world stayed with me. Agnieszka represents the ideal strong female character because she’s not just made strong as a token; she’s breathing it, living it, and exemplifies this trait in everything she does. This girl is the heroine that you worry so much about, you cry your eyes out onto the pages. You go girl. 100%; 5 out of 5; would get with the Dragon.
I’d recommend Uprooted to everyone, but especially to lovers of fantasy fiction and powerful female protagonists. -- Amy O.
