Things I Wanted to Say, But Never Did
by Monica Murphy
i have a lot to say about this one
i went out on a limb here. i only really wanted to read the 2nd book in this series, and though they’re stand alones, i said fuck it and indulged. i am NOT a fan of dark bully romance. did i know that’s what this book was going into it? absolutely not! did i also absolutely tear through every single chapter despite my constant apprehensiveness for the next thing that would come out of whit’s mouth? yup!
i’m not gonna speak too much on the toxicity and straight up couples counseling both summer and whit need; i understand it’s a bully romance or whatever the fuck and it’s simply not my cup of tea. though him saying she deserved almost getting r worded because of her halloween costume absolutely tainted the fuck out of his character for me. but again, bratty, sexually demanding prep school boy; i get it.
i think what frustrates me the most with this one is that the author has such a firm grasp on how to keep the reader yearning and digging for more every time they flip the page. it is so well-written and the plot - though seemed simple enough - was actually decent.
i can see how this book as it is would be successful with its demographic, but i feel so strongly that getting deeper into the thriller/murder aspect of the story would have made it 10x better. like god i couldn’t stop reading by the last half of the book.
also, i absolutely despise epilogues, and this one succumbed to my rath.
i’ve heard endless raving about the second one though, so onto my next endeavor!
