Antigoddess by Kendare Blake

3.0

I'm between a 2 and a 3 for this one....but that cover gets a 5. I really like the cover.
It was like a lump, hard climb in the beginning, amazing highflying middle, and awkward falling at the end.
The beginning was slow for me. I almost put it down to try for another time, but it was heavily recommended by a lot of famous booktubers so I stuck it out. Plus, while I didn't enjoy the switching viewpoints in the beginning because it made it awkward to read for me, I liked the writing style and descriptions by the author. I was so happy I did, because once it hit Chapter six I really started loving it. I felt like the story was working and I was learning more about the characters. I liked Athena and Odysseus' relationship a lot more than Aiden & Cassandra's which sometimes seemed kind of flat.

But then I started getting closer to the end and it started falling off again. I normally can't put a book down toward the end because I need to know what happens, but I kept closing it and losing focus even in the battle scenes. My favorite character, Odysseus, suddenly just stood there even though he obviously could've helped. Plus the only characters that really got any dialogue were Aiden, Cassandra, and Athena. Cassandra's started to turn into a typical voice you might hear from main female characters in YA books. The kind that whine about their boyfriend while they're on the brink of death. And I was so happy when Athena was a dominant, yet good natured female character. But she just looked bitchy toward the end. Then Aiden dies? I wasn't even sad, I was just confused. I still am, but I'm not exactly hungering for a sequel unless it proves as interesting as the middle of this book.
