Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power

5.0

This book is so raw, and PERFECTLY encapsulates so much of what I personally feel towards my own mother and family that I cannot say anything that isn't biased about this book.
I love Rory Power's style of taking very real-life harmful substances and expanding their horror, creating this gothic modern day work circling around characters living IN this modern gothic setting. This book has a very intriguing mystery about the Nielsen farm, sure, but it's also about the Nielsen FAMILY and about what love is and isn't; "can you understand someone without forgiving them?".
This book has completely changed my life, and was such a cathartic experience that I will forever be grateful for. Holy fuck. Thank you, Rory Power. Thank you for putting to words what I have felt for 23 years and slowly uncovered the roots and tangled vines of feelings. Thank you.
