Engrossing, old fashioned novel that takes place in 1975, during Indira Gandhi’s declaration of a State of Emergency. The story is about the relationship of four people, two of whom are Untouchables, and the relationship they form during this troubled time. The book is realistic about life in India during that time, especially for the lower castes, so it is a good read, but not always a pleasant one.
