One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus

3.0

McManus’ novel is cheesy which I found a little annoying but the mystery aspect was what I found to be rather interesting. I do have to admit that I found the entire story anti-climactic in a sense. Per another review I read - I find the handling of death, gossip, and tropes is questionable in that it could have been better explained / dealt with in a better manner? I understand when it comes to Mystery novels some things are left unsaid, but as someone who studies 19th century literature and has read authors like Conan Doyle and read sensation fiction from EB Braddon and Collins, things could have just been explained in a clearer way. I found this novel as a debut YA cheesy, yet couldn’t put it down.
