He/She/They: How We Talk About Gender and Why It Matters by Schuyler Bailar

emotional hopeful informative inspiring reflective sad medium-paced

5.0

This is essential reading, especially for cis folks. Equal parts poignant, thought-provoking and instructional. The audiobook with Schuyler’s narration is fantastic. I appreciate the way he wove his own journey and his unique perspective as a  Korean trans male athlete, while also including sections on terminology and explanations of concepts cis people may not have been exposed to previously. I found the chapters on trans athletes and toxic masculinity to be particularly powerful, but truly the entire book is phenomenal.
