3.5

I read this because I loved Powers' previous book The Overstory. Bewilderment is a portrait of a father (Theo) and son (Robin) and their love and concern for the world. Theo, the narrator, is trying to succesfully parent his autistic (?) son, while both of them also deal with grief over their lost wife/mom. The political commentary in the book is a bit on the nose and Theo has some serious flaws as a parent and narrator but in the end I did enjoy reading it. Not as much as The Overstory though.
