Well, this was a little gem! I started listening to it and then just couldn’t stop. Even when I normally watch TV at night, I had to listen to this instead as it was incredibly addictive!!!
I am seriously slacking on my Harlan Coben books and this just reignited my love for them. And hello, Myron!!!!!! So happy to see his name pop up.
To me, with all the action and investigation, I actually forgot I was reading a Harlan book as this had all the feels of a Jack Reacher book, although there wasn’t a lot of fighting nut there was an awful waterboarding scene, *shudder*
I LOVED the narrator of this book, he is what made it for me. I was not only addicted to the writing but his voice…..ahem, but seriously his production made everything worthwhile.
What a story! One that completely leads you up the garden path! A conspiracy theory and a secret club had me guessing at all sorts but the answer….well it was so shocking and simple it just, well, wow! You need to read it!!
The prologue was shocking and bang on point and just made you want to hurriedly turn the pages to find out what the heck was going on! What a start!
Nap, what a cool name, is restless. His brother’s death, all those many moons ago, in his mind, are unresolved. His teen sweetheart is missing and despite growing up, he never really moved on. He was forever pining for her and tied up over Leo, his brother. I loved how Nap “spoke” to his brother throughout the book. His way of clearing his head, almost like a dear diary method, as we learn more about Nap, Leo, their friends and that night.
What a heart-wrenching twist of a book! I just don’t know how to feel but a big part of me is sad. Sad, because everything could have been avoided if it hadn’t been for one person. What a fab sting and I had no idea 90% of the way through until Nap had an inkling and I then had a eureka moment. All credit to Coben’s delicate wordplay with us, never disclosing the last piece of the puzzle until we needed it.
A fab book, that put a fire back into my love of reading. I look forward to the next adventure with Mr Coben and his books!
