Down a Dark Road by Linda Castillo

3.0

I love the setting of a quiet Amish town for this series, but this is book 9 and Kate is still getting caught off guard and disarmed and fighting for her life (twice!) I don’t know why anyone would say this is the best in the series so far. Her boyfriend/lover should leave her for all the gray hairs she's caused him. At least the first time she gets disarmed in this book she's ashamed and admits she screwed up. However, her mistake is not enough to keep it from happening later. It's not good writing when the main character of a series repeatedly falls for traps and runs straight into danger without backup or nobody knowing where she is all the time. Kate’s recklessness and penchant for trouble are the main themes throughout the series and are way too formulaic for me to give this book more than 3 stars.
