“You Just Need to Lose Weight”: And 19 Other Myths About Fat People by Aubrey Gordon

I’ve always been a fat person, but I’ve never truly contended with the existence of people who were fatter than me. I’ve experienced some of the things that Aubrey mentioned in this book, like issues with accessing medical care. But I’ve never been kicked off a plane. I’m able to find my size in most stores. Well, at least now I am. 15 years ago, probably not. And reading this book, I registered everything that Aubrey was saying as correct and awful, because it is, but I also have to acknowledge that I am a more privileged fat person because I’m the ‘right kind of fat’. I also love that Aubrey calls out thin people, but she doesn’t call them out for being thin, she calls them out for their anti-fat bias.
