Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
3.0
Perhaps it's because I've already read this once before, a few years ago, and watched the movie as well, but reading this didn't make much of an impact on me. The book is presented as a sort of mystery, where it is slowly revealed to the reader that Kathy, Ruth and Tommy are clones created for the purpose of donating their organs to normal humans who need them. The first time I read this, I felt a kind of horror. But now that I know the premise, reading the book again didn't gave me that same feeling, and I started to notice little annoying things, like how the stories of events are linked in ways that are sometimes contrived, or the way Ishiguro tries to show that Kathy is fully human but ends up presenting her as overly sensitive, thoughtful and wise. Still, the characters are likeable, and there's a wistful atmosphere throughout that tugged at my heart.
