Edward the ghost appears next, and I lunge for him, only to hear his laughter echoing in his wake, as he disappears and reappears next to me.
“The wolves don’t need you. But Damien does. Hurry, Van Helsing. The party’s getting too crowded there. You’re missing all the fun,” the cheeky fucker says in what has to be the happiest tone I’ve heard him use.
He disappears after that, leaving me to sink into the muddied earth beneath me, while my mind stumbles all over itself.
“What the fucking hell is going on?!” I shout toward the sky.
“A lot,” comes a rasp voice that gives an answer I wasn’t expecting.

After spending the vast majority of my life lonely my time being annoyef with this series, I came to this town book to find answers about my mother everything and everyone, and instead, stumbled upon a secret society full of monsters more secrets and maddening situations I never knew existed outside of dark tales.

Now I've built a sanctuary, gotten in the middle of an ages-old feud between various monster factions read all 6 books in the series, and somehow ended up with an ancient, queen-like tyrant targeting me writting full blown reviews that were really fantastical tales for 5 of them when the books annoyed the ever loving fluff out of me as much as they made me enjoy them, because my life sucks sometimes.

I don't know how these things keep happening to me. They just do.

Like I said, my life sucks sometimes.

That ⤴ would be the blurb for this review, if I ever wrote one. Which I kind of did. Huh.

I know, I know, you (might?) have been expecting a fantastical tale like the ones I wrote for the other 5 books, but in all honesty I got no energy for one right now.

With that said let me lay it out for you:

Did I enjoy this book? Yes

Did I enjoy the series as a whole? Yes

Did this book annoy me? Yes

Did this series annoy me? Hell Yes

The writing and structure of this book was the same as the previous ones: Shitty, capital S. The story did make up for it - to an extent. We got all the answers. We also got whiplash. So there's that.

Problems:

1) Pace: This was rushed. The whole fucking series was all over the fucking place. This could have easily been a four book series if there was any pacing at any given time. So this book was running like its ass was on fire while the rest were pretending to be turtles. Nope.

2) The Villain: WHAT VILLAIN?!?! We had 4 books were the villain was build up to unheard of proportions and in the end we saw nothing to even suggest she was worth a damn. Naturally this took away from the whole story. If you're gonna tell us someone is a villain the least you can do is show us something to back that claim up!

In the end, I am glad I read this, no matter the rage and hair pulling it induced.

I am Maraya and I survived this series.
