Mr. Monk Goes to Hawaii by Lee Goldberg
4.0
I've always loved the Monk TV series and now I'm really enjoying these books. There's a lot to love even if you've not come across this detective before. The writer gets the tone exactly right and the plot lines are simply excellent - with a lot of twists to keep you reading.
As ever the characters are also delightful, and the wonderfully stressed-out Monk is a perfect foil for his wonderfully patient assistant Natalie - they make a great team. I also really admire the way the books are written from the assistant's point of view which gives you a very clever insight into Detective Monk and his foibles. I think the only other series where the assistant is the viewpoint character is Sherlock Holmes and, here, it's just as charmingly done.
