I've been on a hunt for a good Beauty and the beast retelling and I finally found one! I loved this story so much and it was probably my favourite Twisted tale so far.
In this one, The beast still gets cursed and the story starts off as normal. Belle is judged by the townsfolk thinking that she is a bit weird for always reading and not thinking about marriage and kids. Gaston tries to get her to marry him by throwing her a surprise wedding, she runs away and finds out that her father's horse came home without her father. She goes to investigate, finds the castle, meets the beast and exchanges her father's life for hers. The book then changes direction. The beast still wants to make her fall in love with him so he can change back - but she resists and remembers that Stocholm syndrom exists and that she doesn't want that to happen to her - so instead, she slowly falls in love with him after they start discovering what went down after her mother cursed him and turned him into a beast. I also loved the plot twist that the Beast doesn't change into a prince at the end of the story, instead he asks Belle's mother to use the last reserves of magic she has to turn his servants back into people and he stays a beast- he and Belle then decide to find all the magic creatures that still exist, bring them back to the castle where they can be safe and he can be turned back - and this is where the book ends. I actually wished that there would be more and that there was part two to this because I would love to see that journey. I loved the relationship between beast and Belle and how they slowly started trusting each other and work together. I just wanted another book set in this universe with them instead of whatever extra movies we got :(
